The iconic rum brand Captain Morgan has introduced a new variant onto the Ugandan market — Captain Morgan Muck Pit Melon Splash — in a move aimed at tapping into evolving consumer tastes and social trends.

Launched by Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), the new offering blends Captain Morgan Original Spiced Gold with ripe honeydew and watermelon notes, layered with subtle vanilla spice and light oak undertones. The result is a bold, fruit-forward rum crafted to deliver a vibrant and refreshing taste experience.

According to Wycliff Tulinawe, UBL’s Innovations Project Manager, the new variant is designed to resonate with a generation of consumers seeking drinks that reflect their personality and social expression.

“We continue to see a shift in how consumers interact with our brands. Today’s consumer is curious and expressive, drawn to drinks that match their personality and moments of discovery. With Muck Pit Melon Splash, we are offering a rum variant that is vibrant, playful and easy to enjoy,” Tulinawe said.

He added that innovation remains central to UBL’s strategy as the company responds to changing market dynamics and seeks to broaden how and when consumers enjoy rum.

The Muck Pit concept draws inspiration from the traditional Caribbean rum-making process, where overripe fruit is fermented in so-called “muck pits” under tropical heat to create intensely fruity flavor profiles. The new variant combines this heritage with Uganda’s lively social culture to create what the brand describes as a tropical twist on its signature spice.

Bottled at 37.5 percent alcohol by volume (ABV), Captain Morgan Muck Pit Melon Splash is recommended as a mixer-based drink or as a base for fruit punches.

The product was unveiled during a launch event and tasting experience held at Uganda Breweries in Luzira. Guests and stakeholders were taken through a curated, multi-sensory experience where aroma and flavor were showcased in an immersive setting.

The evening also featured the announcement of social media personalities Linus Tats, Jean Coprise and DJ Hardy as brand ambassadors for the new variant, underscoring its positioning within Kampala’s vibrant nightlife and entertainment scene.

Captain Morgan Muck Pit Melon Splash is now available on the Ugandan market at a recommended retail price of Shs36,000.
